The Power Of The Daleks’ Regenerating 50 Years Later As BBC Animated Series

BBC Animated Series

BBC Worldwide and BBC American have commissioned a six-part animated series titled Doctor Who: The Power Of The Daleks, a reimagining of a classic 1966 Doctor Who series of episodes that was lost to an archive purge in the 1970s. A November 12 premiere on BBC America is set for the series, which is using audio recordings, surviving photographs and film clips from the original that was broadcast only once exactly 50 years ago to the day off the BBC new release.

The Story

The six-part series features the regeneration, called “renewal” back then, of the first Doctor, William Hartnell, into second Doctor, Patrick Troughton. This comes as the Time Lord and his companions Polly (Anneke Wills) and Ben (Michael Craze) do battle with the Daleks on the planet Vulcan.

Charles Norton is directing the animated take, with character designs from comic book artists Martin Geraghty and Adrian Salmon.

The Power Of The Daleks animation is the most ambitious Doctor Who archive restoration ever attempted and we’re all very honoured to be a part of such an exciting project,” Norton said. “Intelligent, suspenseful and magnificently staged, The Power Of The Daleks is one of the great lost classics of 1960s television and a superb example of the black and white era at its finest.”
