The Crystal Maze is back . . . but not with David Tennant

More than 21 years after it was axed, the classic game show The Crystal Maze is set to return to our screens for a one-off special.

However, despite the rumours, Channel 4 confirmed to WIRED that former Doctor Who David Tennant would not be part of the programme’s line-up.

The show is remembered for its eccentric presenter Richard O’Brien and its dazzling array of  challenges which tested both physicality and intelligence drew more than 6 million viewers per episode.

Running from 1990 to 1995, the show saw contestants compete in a series of mental, physical, skill or ‘mystery’ challenges to gain crystals in order to scoop up at least 100 gold tokens which would shower down on them in the Crystal Dome, but nothing was as simple as it sounded in the Crystal Maze… and each silver token they collected would cancel out a gold one.

If you can’t wait until October for your Crystal Maze fix, then you’re in luck. Episodes from all six seasons are available to watch on YouTube.
