Black Mirror’s Charlie Brooker reveals he was approached for Doctor Who

Black Mirror co-creator Charlie Brooker has revealed he almost wrote an episode of one of the biggest British TV shows of all time.

Speaking ahead of season 3 of his acclaimed dystopian anthology series, Brooker told The Independent how he was once approached to write an episode of Doctor Who, but had to turn the opportunity down due to other commitments.

“I was approached for Doctor Who and I just didn’t have time,” he said. “It was really annoying. I was really busy and they haven’t asked me again since.

“It was a bit like the home office asking you to do something.”

The new series of Black Mirror has just been made available to stream on Netflix. This season’s episodes include “Nosedive” starring Bryce Dallas Howard and “Shut Up and Dance” starring Alex Lawther and Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn.

With Brooker halfway through writing the fourth season, he teased what fans can expect from future installments.

“Weirdly, we are… [long pause] We’re doing an episode that’s different. I can’t say anything about it, but we’re doing one that’s in a setting we’ve never done before. But I have been thinking about how we would do medieval times and things like that.”
